The Eptanisa, or Ionian Islands, in Greece consist of the following seven main islands:
Corfu, Zakynthos, Kefalonia, Lefkada, Ithaca, Paxos, Kythira.
These islands are known for their stunning landscapes, rich history, and cultural significance.
Erikousa, Mathraki, Othoni, Meganisi, and the deserted islets of Strofades south of Zakynthos are the smaller Ionian Islands.
CLIMATE AND CUISINE
The Ionian Islands have a Mediterranean climate, with mild, rainy winters and hot, sunny summers. The temperature of the sea is high enough for pleasant swimming from June to September and, often, even later in the year.
Their products include herbs and spices, honey, wine, cheese, fruit, wheat, olive oil, and a large variety of vegetables. Each island has their own specialties to be discovered and their traditional recipes which can't be found anywhere else.
The Cuisine of the Ionian islands or Heptanesean cuisine is the cuisine of the Ionian Islands region. It has more influences from Italian cuisine than can be found in any other part of Greece, due to the long period of Venetian rule in the Ionian Islands. There are many local recipes to discover, such as the Kefalonia's famous pies.
